BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce marked a historic milestone during its 100th Annual Meeting & Awards Luncheon, held March 31 at the Ledger, by honoring three exceptional community leaders whose contributions continue to shape the region’s growth and success.
As the Chamber celebrates its centennial year, the annual awards recognized individuals who exemplify leadership, service, and a deep commitment to the Bentonville community.
Gary Vernon, General Manager of the OZ Trails Bike Park, received the Arthur “Rabbit” Dickerson Award, which honors individuals who have made significant, long-term contributions to the Bentonville/Bella Vista community.
Named after beloved local figure Arthur “Rabbit” Dickerson, the award celebrates a legacy of service, heart, and hometown pride. Vernon embodies these qualities through decades of impact on the region.
A Northwest Arkansas native of more than 20 years, Vernon is widely recognized as a driving force behind the development of the area’s trail systems. Often referred to as the “Godfather” of OZ Trails, he helped provide the vision for more than 600 miles of mountain biking trails.
In addition to his lasting contributions, Vernon is currently leading the development of the OZ Trails Bike Park, set to open in June. This state-of-the-art park will further elevate Bentonville’s outdoor offerings, creating a destination that connects people, health, and outdoor life in ways few communities can match.
His work has played a key role in positioning Bentonville as the Mountain Biking Capital of the World, while fostering a deep connection between residents and the outdoors.
